Experts on the future of work share insights on creating happy hybrid teams.

The challenge for all companies after the pandemic is to create open and trusting environments emphasizing employees' well-being, growth, and satisfaction. This model of prioritizing the well-being of people has been successfully implemented in different companies around the world and Microsoft has not been left behind, making their managers keep their teams united despite not converging in the same physical space and time.

Experts on the future of work share their observations on how managers can adapt their work strategies to this new corporate reality.

1. Breaks during the working day

Taking breaks during the day increases productivity in the working world, regardless of whether you are at work or in the office, it is advisable to take short breaks to clear feelings of stress, mental blocks, or minor physical ailments that may affect work performance during the day.

2. Attending meetings while walking or engaging in any activity on the move

Dr. Sean Rintel, principal researcher at Microsoft Research UK who is studying the future of work, concurs. “Immobility is a factor in meeting fatigue because remote work removes the need to physically move between meetings,” he says. “Movement during a meeting may improve engagement while also keeping us healthy.”1

In order for this type of activity to be carried out simultaneously and effectively, it is recommended to clearly specify the rules to generate a compatible environment and find a balance between well-being and work.

3. Roles that require working from the office

There are roles that require more presence in the company's facilities and about this, and it is necessary to generate a degree of awareness in both managers and people of all teams, both those who are affected by this mobility restriction and those who have more freedom to work remotely.

Being clear about the functions of each role is important to reinforce the sense of responsibility and avoid the deterioration of labor relations.

The challenge is to find solutions that allow these people to have a greater degree of mobility without affecting the companies.

4. How to manage work teams in different places with time differences?

Every day is a more frequent scenario in companies, which has led to beginning to manage communication protocols that safeguard the integrity of operating time and rest time, one of the examples in which you can demonstrate correct communication of the team is clarifying the subject or header of an email the time zone in which each person is in order to be clear about the response times.
